Lorrie McGovern, D.B.A.
As a life-long learner, I have been going to school most of my life. It seems logical that I would now find myself working at a college. This was not my intended destination, but it has been an amazing journey with many twists and turns. And truly, it is all about the journey, the experiences along the way, not the destination.
In 1987, my family settled in Bristol, Tennessee, and together we opened one of several businesses. My business skills compliment my husband's skills so we were very blessed to have the opportunity to work together and build several successful businesses.
My experience as Director of Community Development at the Bristol Chamber of Commerce introduced me to many new aspects of our community. In 2007, the King College School of Business was awarded an economic development grant from the Appalachian Colleges Association (ACA) that was administered by UNC-Chapel Hill. In collaboration with many community partners I initially met while working at the Bristol Chamber of Commerce, King College was able to establish the Bristol Business Resource Center at the Bristol Chamber of Commerce.
Each of these experiences have built on the other and led me to this wonderful place. I embrace the mission of King College that challenges us to educate students to transform culture for Christ. I believe we are challenged not only to transform students but to constantly renew our minds to positively change ourselves. I also believe culture is transformed for Christ through service to others, and I strive to model this behavior.
My current research interests include community economic development and small business entrepreneurship. I serve as Chair of the Believe In Bristol Mainstreet Program Economic Restructuring Committee, Vice-Chair SCORE of Bristol, Chair of the Regional Non-Profit Certificate Program, and Secretary/Treasurer for the Bristol Tennessee Industrial Development Board.
